[Mathevosian Scholarship]: New Beneficiaries

September 14, 2009

For over a decade, FAR’s Mathevosian Scholarship Program has been funding the University educations of a select group of qualifying students.  Thanks to the financial sponsorship provided by this scholarship program targeted towards underprivileged university students who have completed their first year of study, graduates have become highly skilled professionals in their fields of choice.

This year, 46 candidates applied for the scholarship.  Of the 46 applicants, 20 were from Yerevan, and the remainder of the candidates hailed from other regions within the country, such as Shirak, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Aragatsotn, Tavush, Armavir, and Ararat. Most of the applicants were from Yerevan State University and Armenian State University of Economics.

The FAR Educational Committee made visits to the students’ homes in order to get closely acquainted with the living conditions of the applicants.  During the final committee meeting, 10 students were selected to participate in the Program. Of the 10 scholarship recipients, 4 students are from Yerevan State University, 4 from Armenian State University of Economics, one from the Armenian State Engineering University and one from the State Agrarian University of Armenia. Per specialization the number of scholarship recipients is: Economics – 4 students, Informatics – 2 students, International Affairs -1, Journalism -1, Philology -1student and Agribusiness -1.

FAR would like to help as many students as possible.  Therefore, taking into consideration the difficult financial situations faced by some applicants, two additional students received half of their tuition paid for by FAR.   It is FAR’s hope to expand such scholarship programs in order to one day provide education to all qualifying students.
